What does it do ?
LAUNCHER will launch other programs and then return to the desktop.
This Demo is fully functional but it does remind you to register before
launching an application.
Why ?
I use Neodesk and it's great. Just click on a desktop icon to run an
application. However there are some limitations. Neodesk only allows a
limited number of icons on the desktop. There are also many programs
that I use infrequently. I didn't want to clutter the desktop with
icons for these programs so I still had to dig through folders to find
and run them.
I needed an easy and fast method of running these programs. LAUNCHER
fills the bill nicely, I now have a much simpler and neater desktop and
quick access to all my seldom used programs.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
How It Works:
Run LAUNCHER and click on "Edit List". You can now add programs to the
LAUNCHER list by clicking on an empty slot and using the file selector
to select a program for that slot.
When you have filled some slots, click on "Save List" and the file
LAUNCHER.SUP will be written to the directory where LAUNCHER lives.
The next time you run LAUNCHER this setup file is automatically loaded.
You can erase a slot by selecting "Edit List" and then the slot you
want to erase. Select "Cancel" when the file selector appears.
Run a program by clicking on the program slot (Be sure Edit Setup is
turned off). That's about all there is to it.
Data:
You can also pass a "document" name to a program and the program will
load the document automatically when it runs. Not all programs will
accept a passed document.
Here's how you do it:
1. Select "Data"
2. Select "Edit Setup"
3. Select an empty slot
4. Select the document you want loaded
5. When the next file selector appears, select the program that will
load the document.
The slot will list the document, not it's parent program.
NOTE: A few programs that have a document passed to them do not release
all their memory when they exit (Wordflair for example).
There are also programs that do not expect to have the complete
document and path name passed to them (KCS Omega for example), these
will not work with the "DATA" function.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Floobydust:
You can also run some desk accessories from LAUNCHER. Most accessories
that were designed to run as a program or accessory will work but some
won't, you'll have to experiment.
I have several copies of LAUNCHER in different directories or folders
for different types of programs (like utilities, music programs, etc.)
Don't run Launcher from itself. That would be silly.
LAUNCHER keeps about 32k of system memory for itself. You will have
that much less for your application.
